Raises $10,000 to Provide Educational Opportunities for the Families of Fallen Soldiers.
Last November, Grand Bear Golf Club hosted the Patriot Golf Day tournament benefiting Folds of Honor, an organization which provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. On January 3, Grand Bear Golf Club presented a check for $10,000 benefiting the Folds of Honor. Two past scholarship recipients, Jadon & Brendon Turner, along with their mother Dorothy, accepted the donation on behalf of the Charity .
Grand Bear was one of hundreds of golf courses around the country participating in Patriot Golf Day – America’s largest nationwide golf fundraiser. Through the event and the generosity of the sponsors, participants, Grand Bear employees and VICI Golf Properties, Grand Bear raised $10,000 to provide educational opportunities for the families of fallen soldiers.
“We can’t thank them enough – these amazing men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, our freedoms and the American way of life,” said Brad Kale, general manager of Grand Bear Golf Club. “We’re extremely proud to host Patriot Golf Day and do anything we can do to help the families of our brave men and women in uniform to honor their sacrifice and ensure their legacy, especially in times of grief and tragedy.”
Folds of Honor was started by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 fighter pilot, PGA Professional and USGA member who came up with the concept of Patriot Golf Day and founded the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007, following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. After returning from his second tour, Major Rooney witnessed a profound display of a family’s grief as they welcomed home the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin. Inspired by this tragic homecoming of a fallen American solider, Rooney started the Folds of Honor Foundation to provide support to military families in the aftermath of their tragedies.
